About Us
The Mosquito Control Program within the City of South Bend, Washington, is a program, funded by the City, through resident water bills. Each year, the City budgets for and contracts with a licensed mosquito control company to provide services. These services include a complete Integrated Pest Management Approach.
Source reduction and larviciding is the main focus of the program.
When mosquito begin to emerge as biting mosquitoes, the contractor will fog the streets, alleyways and areas of concerns as reported by residents.
Our Process
We follow a set of core principles to ensure effective and environmentally responsible mosquito control:
- Data-Driven Action – Mosquito control measures are implemented only when surveillance data justifies intervention. We strictly adhere to Best Management Practices for Mosquito Control and actively promote them.
-
Tailored Integrated Pest Management (IPM) – South Bend's Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) is designed to address local needs. Our approach balances effectiveness, ecological impact, and cost-benefit analysis, utilizing a combination of methods, including:
- Public education
- Natural and biological control
- Elimination of breeding sources
- Targeted insecticide applications
- Minimizing Environmental Impact – Whenever possible, mosquito breeding sources—whether natural or human-made—are modified in ways that minimize negative environmental effects.
-
Safe and Responsible Use of Insecticides – Insecticides and application methods are selected and used with maximum efficiency and minimal risk to human health and the environment. We comply with all State and Federal regulations and adhere to scientific best practices, including:
- Following registered pesticide label guidelines
- Prioritizing insecticides that pose the least risk to non-target organisms
- Using strategies that help prevent mosquito resistance to treatments
- Protection of pollinators through the use of IPM and scientific timing of applications. Bees and other beneficial organisms are protected through responsible management.
- Expertise and Ongoing Training – Our team members are properly trained, state-certified, and continuously update their knowledge through professional education and training programs.
By upholding these principles, we ensure a safe, effective, and sustainable mosquito control program for the South Bend community.
